Christina Moore, The defense attorney for John Cowell, the man responsible for the slaying of 18-year-old Nia Wilson says that her client may be unfit to stand trail, saying he suffers from extreme delusion and extreme paranoia.
"I don't believe he's able to assist me, Moore said "We are unable to have any conversation about the case."
"It's a lie. That's what white privilege does...That's like war. All white people do is say they're crazy." Nia's mother, Alicia Grayson said.
A hearing is now set for December 27th to decide whether criminal proceedings will be temporarily suspended. In the event that they are, the court will appoint two doctors to evaluate weather John Cowell is competent to stand trail.
"It's not an evaluation that's determined by the defense team. It's neutral, court-appointed doctors who would be making the call."
On the evening of July 22nd, Cowell allegedly slit 18-year-old Nia's neck and stabbed her older sister Letifah Wilson in the neck as they were exiting a train at BART station in Oakland.
John reportedly cleaned off his knife and immediately fled the scene after, leaving his belongings which included a backpack, ID and a sweater in the station parking garage, which ultimately led to a manhunt that ended with his arrest, he was found at another BART station.
The case is being seen as a hate crime considering the fact that John is white and the Wilson sister's were black.
