Darrell Johnson, the crisis manager for singer and song writer R.Kelly was interviewed by Gayle King on CBS This Morning. During the interview, Gayle asked Johnson if he would leave his 20-year-old daughter with R.Kelly.
During an interview with CBS' Gayle King on CBS This Morning, Gayle asked him if he would leave his 20-year old daughter alone with R.Kelly.
"Absolutely not. I would not leave my daughter with anyone who's accused of pedophilia. I would not leave my daughter with anyone that's accused of being a pedophile. I would not."
"That doesn't seem like a contradiction to you? You're defending R.Kelly but at the same time, saying you wouldn't leave your own daughter with him?"
"I wouldn't leave my daughter with anyone. I'll say that again, (anyone) that's accused of being a pedophile."
"Mr. Kelly is a mess, I've heard statements that he's happy that this is going on, that he wanted to be at this particular place. That's absolutely not true. Nobody wants to be locked down for 24 hours, no TV. He can't read and write, so he can't read a book. It's almost like a jury has already convicted him."
"When you're in a state of mind Mr.Kelly is in right now, any person, including myself and you, would probably want the authorities be cautious of what has taken place"
"I never call anybody a liar. I came on seven months ago. I walked into a front door, and I seen Mr,Kelly being a normal person...Mr.Kelly was recording. Twenty minutes later, two women walked in with shopping bags, no security, free to go doing what they wanted to do, and I spent a lot of time with Mr.Kelly. And I still say my eye is trained. I haven't seen anything that would cause me to be suspicious. They've indicated Mr,Kelly. He's in jail right now. He will have his day in court. And they'll have to bring the evidence. And that's what has to be done. If the evidence sticks, Mr.Kelly will spend the rest of his life in the penitentiary."
Johnson later back tracked and changed his statement during an interview with USA TODAY. "I should have worded it better, I would leave my daughter with Kelly because I do not believe he is a pedophile."
