Rapper Tay-K now 19, Is currently on trail for his involvement in a home invasion which led to the murder of 21-year-old Ethan Walker.
Tay was only 16 at the time and was not eligible for the death penalty, but he is facing life in prison. He was initially caught and placed on house arrest, which resulted in him cutting off his ankle bracelet and went on the run. During his time on the run, he allegedly shot and killed a 23-year-old photographer and beat and robbed a 65-year-old man in a park.
Tay-K claimed he swallowed a bottle of pills before he was captured, and claims he started to hear voices in his head. He was then taken to a nearby hospital where he was tested for drugs, but the results came back negative. Tay, however kept instituting he was hearing voices. He was then placed in a psychiatric ward for a day, and later moved to a detention center.
Tay has pleaded not guilty to an additional count of aggravated robbery, as well as one charge of capital murder. He has pleaded guilty to two charges of armed robbery.
One of Tay's defense attorneys, Jeff Kearney says that he believes the guilty plea is a sign that Tay accepts responsibility for committing the robbery. "Tay agreed to participate in a robbery. Tay participated in a robbery." He also pointed out that the evidence wont support Tay thought his friend Latharian Merritt was going to go in and intentionally kill Ethan Walker.
If convicted of capital murder, Tay-K would be sentenced to life in prison with a possibility of parole after serving 40 years of his sentence.
