On Monday The Dallas Police Department fired the woman accused of shooting and killing a man in his apartment. Police have said Amber Guyger was off-duty but still in uniform on Sept. 6 when she fatally shot 26-year old Botham who she thought was burglarizing her apartment after she found the door ajar. According to her she confused Jean’s home for her own, thought Jean was an intruder and shot him when he refused her commands. She was arrested three days later, on manslaughter charges. The incident sparked many protests in Dallas with many calling for the officer to be fired and charged with murder. She remains free after posting $300,000 bond on a manslaughter charge and has the right to appeal her discipline. Jean’s family is reportedly satisfied with the termination but would still like Guyger to be indicted on a murder charge.
